In a significant security operation near Sangai University, close to Kaparang village in Churachandpur district, Manipur authorities arrested Lamkhogin Dimngel, a resident of Kangchup Patjang in the Kangpokpi district. The suspect was apprehended during a routine security check, leading to the recovery of incriminating items that suggest involvement in illicit activities.
The authorities seized Rs 34.2 lakh in unaccounted cash, 24 grams of suspected brown sugar hidden in two soap cases, three mobile phones, and identification documents, including an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and voter ID, all belonging to Dimngel. Additionally, the police confiscated a four-wheeled vehicle and a live round of an unidentified caliber firearm.
In related developments, earlier in the week, Manipur law enforcement eradicated approximately 10 acres of illegal poppy plants in an ongoing anti-drug operation. This action is part of a broader effort to combat drug trafficking and illegal cultivation within the state.
Meanwhile, authorities have also been investigating Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma alias Nanda, a member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA), who was arrested on February 17. Sharma is reportedly involved in extorting money from local businesses, government officials, and educational institutions.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to uncover further details about the source and intent behind the confiscated materials, as well as to identify individuals involved in the illegal cultivation and trafficking networks.
