Manipur Police Arrest Two for Spreading Fake News About Assault

Manipur police have arrested two individuals for spreading fake news through a viral video that falsely claimed an assault and the theft of 500 chicks at Phubala. The video, which showed people dressed in black, sparked alarm across social media. However, after a detailed investigation, authorities confirmed that the incident was fabricated.

The accused are Iphamayum Ramijuddin (30) from Kwakta, Ward No. 8 in Bishnupur district, who admitted to creating the false story, and Heibokmayum Thoiba (29), also from the same area, who recorded and uploaded the video. The Manipur Police have taken both into custody and are pursuing legal action.

In a separate operation, security forces carried out search operations in vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts to maintain safety and stability. During a search at Samukom in Tengnoupal District, authorities recovered a significant cache of weapons, including two pistols, two Pompi guns, explosives, and IEDs, among other materials.
