Mangaluru Police Bust Multi-State E-Commerce Scam

The Mangaluru police have dismantled a significant multi-state scam with the arrest of two individuals accused of defrauding an e-commerce giant across India. The suspects, Raj Kumar Meena (23) and Subhash Gurjar (27), both from Rajasthan, are alleged to be involved in a large-scale fraud that spans over ten states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the investigation. A case has been registered at the Urwa police station in Mangaluru.

The scam reportedly involved fraudulent orders totaling Rs11.45 lakh, placed under a fictitious identity. The accused used the name “Amith” to order two high-value cameras and other items, providing a fake address near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru.

Upon delivery, Meena collected the items while Gurjar distracted the delivery personnel. They swapped the original stickers on the Sony camera boxes with those from other items in the order, delaying delivery confirmation by using an incorrect OTP and planning to collect the cameras the following day.

Suspicion arose when the suspects later canceled the camera order, prompting the private logistics company—an e-commerce platform’s delivery partner—to inspect the boxes and discover the sticker swap. Investigations confirmed that the accused had taken the cameras, leaving behind tampered boxes.

The Urwa Police launched an investigation, seizing Rs11.45 lakh obtained from the sale of the fraudulently acquired goods. Meena was initially detained by Salem Police in Tamil Nadu before being transferred to Urwa Police custody on October 18. Gurjar was arrested in Mangaluru on October 28 following interrogations of Meena.

Meena had previously been arrested on October 4 in a similar case involving the same e-commerce giant. Both suspects now face charges in multiple states, including Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, with ongoing investigations as authorities coordinate with police in other states where additional cases are pending.
