In a significant crackdown on the drug trade in Mangaluru, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested an individual accused of trafficking narcotics into the city. The operation resulted in the seizure of hydro weed ganja worth Rs 30 lakh, along with 2.5 kg of regular ganja, bringing the total value of confiscated substances to approximately Rs 30.85 lakh.
The arrested individual has been identified as H Mohammad Hafeez, 23, a resident of Haradi House, Puttur Taluk, who was living at an apartment near Chombugudde Mosque in Mangaluru. Hafeez was allegedly involved in the distribution of hydro weed ganja, a potent form of cannabis, to the local public, including students.
The CCB, acting on reliable intelligence regarding the illegal sale of narcotics, focused on the Kudroli area where Hafeez was reportedly selling the drugs. During the operation, the police seized 300 grams of hydro weed ganja, worth Rs 30 lakh, along with 2.5 kg of regular ganja, valued at Rs 75,000. Additionally, authorities found a mobile phone and a digital weighing scale in his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the hydro weed ganja was allegedly imported from Thailand. Police suspect that Hafeez is part of a larger network of individuals involved in the trafficking of narcotic substances, and efforts are underway to apprehend others linked to the operation.
The seizure and arrest were conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, with the operation being directed by Deputy Commissioners Siddharth Goyal and B P Dinesh Kumar. The CCB team, led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, worked alongside inspectors Shyam Sundar H M and PSI Sharanappa Bhandari to carry out the successful raid.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on dismantling the network responsible for trafficking narcotics in Mangaluru and beyond.
