In a significant breakthrough, Mangaluru city police announced the arrest of two individuals accused of defrauding e-commerce giant Amazon. The suspects, Rajkumar Meena (23) and Subhash Gurjar (27), both from Rajasthan, are believed to have cheated the company out of several crores of rupees through a complex scheme spanning ten states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that the investigation was launched after a case was registered at the Urwa police station. The accused allegedly operated under a false identity, placing orders for high-value items, such as Sony cameras, using a fake address near the KSRTC bus stand.
At the time of delivery, Meena reportedly collected the packages and provided an incorrect OTP, compelling delivery personnel to take back the items. Meanwhile, Gurjar would distract the delivery personnel and swap the tracking labels from the valuable cameras to lower-value items, ensuring they were unaware of the switch.
The duo resold the valuable items and discarded SIM cards after each transaction to evade detection. Their fraudulent scheme unraveled when they canceled a high-value camera order, raising suspicions at Amazon’s distribution center.
Police have seized assets worth Rs11.45 lakh from the suspects. Meena was arrested on October 18, which led to Gurjar’s arrest in Mangaluru on October 28. Both individuals now face additional fraud charges in Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
