For nearly three years, Kailash, a 40-year-old man sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife, managed to evade the law after being granted parole during the Covid-19 pandemic. His escape ended on Tuesday, when a team from the Inter-State Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended him in his village in Madhya Pradesh.
Kailash, a resident of Shivpuri village, was convicted in 2011 for the 2008 murder of his wife. The police investigation revealed that he had taken her to Delhi, suspecting an affair with a village friend. After confronting her, he killed her and fled. Following the incident, a case was registered at Najafgarh Police Station, leading to his conviction by the sessions court.
In 2021, amid the pandemic, Kailash was granted a three-month parole. However, instead of returning to prison in August 2021 as required, he disappeared, evading the authorities until his capture earlier this week.
His arrest marks the end of a three-year manhunt by the Delhi Police, and authorities are now working to bring him back into custody to serve his life sentence.
