A man has denied the murder of former councillor Wallis Webb but has admitted to committing fraud using bank cards belonging to his alleged victim.
Sakander Hussain, 25, appeared via video link at Birmingham Crown Court, where he pleaded not guilty to murdering the 65-year-old Webb. The alleged murder took place between January 30 and February 6, with Mr. Webb’s body discovered on February 6 at a property on Baldmoor Lake Road in Erdington, Birmingham. Webb is understood to have served as a councillor in Birmingham in the past, though confirmation from the City Council is pending.
Hussain, who is currently detained at HMP Hewell in Worcestershire, pleaded guilty to a separate fraud charge that spans the same timeframe. This charge involves the unauthorized use of a bank card and a credit card at a takeaway and two supermarkets.
Judge Simon Drew KC remanded Hussain in custody until his two-week trial, which is set to begin on August 12 at the same court.
