n a shocking case of domestic violence, a man from Itanagar’s D Sector, Kioda Babu (33), was detained on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to hang his one-year-old daughter in an unsettling act of violence. The incident was revealed after his wife, Kioda Yapi, filed a written FIR on December 23, accusing Babu of continuous harassment and abuse over the past two years.
The disturbing incident came to light after Babu sent his wife a distressing video on September 13 via WhatsApp. In the video, he appeared to be trying to hang their young daughter by the neck, which prompted Yapi to file the FIR. The police have initiated a case under Sections 85 of the BNS Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The complainant’s statement was recorded under Section 180 of the BNSS Act, and SI Dopi Pakam has been assigned the investigation. Babu, who resided in the Doordarshan Office Area in D Sector, was arrested and brought before the Yupia Judicial Magistrate. While further investigations are ongoing, he has been placed under judicial custody on remand.
The case has been taken up suo moto by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which has requested a status report from the police. This troubling incident has brought significant attention to child protection and domestic violence issues in the region.
