Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Mother and Daughter on Florida Turnpike

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a mother and her 4-year-old daughter on the Florida Turnpike last June. Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) homicide detectives confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Kamarri Sanders on Saturday.

Sanders was arrested Friday in Miami Gardens by BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. unit and has been charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at BSO’s Main Jail.

Previously, two other suspects were arrested in connection with the case. Antoine Harris, 28, was arrested in Miami Gardens last December, while 29-year-old Jaquan Thomas was apprehended in Georgia on unrelated charges and is awaiting extradition to Broward County.

The tragic shooting occurred on June 6, 2023, just after 11:14 p.m. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers responded to reports of gunfire near Mile Marker 49 on the northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike. They found 34-year-old Beatrice Saintvil and her 4-year-old daughter, Janelle Souffrant, suffering from gunshot wounds in their black sedan. Saintvil was transported to a hospital but later died, while her daughter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation was handed over to BSO, which launched an extensive search for the suspects. A $20,000 reward for information was offered, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) matching the initial reward. With Sanders now in custody, all three suspects face charges of first-degree murder as authorities continue their investigation into this heartbreaking crime.
