A man from Sambalpur was arrested for stealing Rs. 25 lakh worth of gold jewelry and cash from his neighbor’s house. The stolen items included Rs. 16.40 lakh in cash and gold jewelry worth Rs. 8.60 lakh, which had been stored for a wedding. Some of the cash was so old that it had even been partially consumed by insects.
The accused, Anshu Behera, a neighbor, noticed the large sum of money and gold kept in the house. Seizing the opportunity while the family was away, he broke into their home, stole the money and valuables, and placed them in a bag. When the family returned and discovered the theft, they promptly reported the incident to the Burla police station on December 12.
The Burla police formed a team led by the SDPO, and through their investigation, it was revealed that Behera had been aware of the cash and gold stored by his neighbors. He had broken the lock to gain access and took everything. Fortunately, the police were able to recover all the stolen items.
