A 43-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for stealing a relative’s tanker over a loan dispute. The police recovered the stolen vehicle using GPS coordinates and also arrested his accomplice.
The accused, Anand Kumar, had approached Selvarani, the widow of a man who allegedly owed him Rs. 25,000 for repairing a sewage tanker. According to the police, Kumar demanded the money from Selvarani, but she refused, claiming her late husband had never mentioned the debt.
While Selvarani attended a function at Kumbakonam, she realized that the tanker’s GPS coordinates no longer pointed to the location where she had parked it. Concerned, she filed a complaint with the Ramapuram Police, who used the GPS data to trace the stolen vehicle.
The police eventually tracked down the tanker and arrested Anand Kumar along with his accomplice, Chidambaranathan, a 36-year-old friend who helped him in the theft. Further investigations are ongoing.
