Man Arrested for Stealing Jewelry on Trains to Fund Online Rummy

A 24-year-old man, who resorted to stealing from passengers on long-distance trains to fund his online rummy addiction, was arrested by the Government Railway Police in Kalyan.

The arrest followed a complaint from a senior citizen who reported that her purse, containing jewelry worth Rs 7 lakh, was stolen while she was asleep on the Siddheshwar Express traveling from Solapur to Kalyan on December 6.

Yogesh Nivas Chavan, a resident of Chakan, Pune, was apprehended on Sunday after police reviewed CCTV footage and other evidence. The stolen jewelry was fully recovered by authorities.

Chavan reportedly admitted to spending all the money he obtained from these thefts on playing online rummy games. The police are continuing their investigation into his activities.
