Man Arrested for Stealing Ambulance in Northbrook

Northbrook, Ill. (February 26, 2025) — A man was arrested after allegedly stealing an Elite ambulance from a hospital in Chicago and driving it to Northbrook on Wednesday, February 26.

At approximately 1:06 p.m., Northbrook police responded to a report of a stolen ambulance located in a parking lot at 1033 Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day at about 12:30 p.m. from Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located at 2739 West Foster Avenue in Chicago.

Police were informed that security personnel at a nearby building had asked the suspect to leave, but he reportedly attempted to hide before being found. Upon arriving at the scene, Northbrook officers located the stolen ambulance and the suspect, identified as Joseph L. Skulsky. Officers discovered that Skulsky still had the ignition keys on him and he admitted to driving the stolen vehicle.

Joseph L. Skulsky, the suspect, was charged with the following:

Aggravated Possession of Stolen Ambulance (Class 1 Felony)
Criminal Trespass to Land (Class B Misdemeanor)
Skulsky is currently in police custody, and further proceedings are pending.
