A man was arrested in Lucknow on Monday for stealing an air conditioner from a house in the city’s Gomti Nagar area. The accused, identified as Toofani, was caught after he stole both the indoor and outdoor units of the air conditioning system from the residence of Akhand Pratap in Vineet Khand.
Following the theft, Akhand Pratap filed a complaint, prompting the police to launch an investigation. Eastern Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prabal Pratap Singh, confirmed that both units of the air conditioner were recovered from Toofani, who was subsequently arrested.
In a related incident earlier this year, another man was arrested in Lucknow on June 2 after he was caught sleeping inside a house he had broken into. The man, found in an intoxicated state, had entered the house in the Indiranagar area, turned on the air conditioner, and fallen asleep. The house belonged to Dr. Sunil Pandey, who was away on official duties in Varanasi at the time of the break-in. Police said the man had broken into the house by opening the front gate.
These incidents highlight a growing trend of unusual burglaries in Lucknow, with suspects targeting air conditioners and other valuable household appliances.
