Man Arrested for Rs 38 Lakh ‘Digital Arrest’ Scam in Chennai

Bijoy Yathindradas, a man who posed as a Mumbai police officer, was arrested by the Avadi city police in connection with a ‘digital arrest’ scam that defrauded a Chennai-based woman professor of Rs 38.16 lakh. Yathindradas, a high school dropout, had been operating multiple bank accounts linked to over 100 cybercrime cases. His accounts facilitated fraudulent transactions across the country. The scam targeted victims by falsely claiming their SIM cards were involved in illegal activities, leading them to make payments under duress. Following an investigation triggered by the victim’s complaint, authorities linked Yathindradas to the fraud, recovering various financial documents and devices.
