Maishanu Auwal and Two Others Arrested for Theft in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested Maishanu Auwal and two others for theft and criminal conspiracy in the state capital.

A press statement signed by the command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufai, shared the details of the arrests on Tuesday. According to the statement, the incident began on January 17, 2025, when Ladan Muhammad, the Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Sokoto, reported a theft at his office in the Gagi Area.

Around 2:50 PM, Muhammad informed the Unguwar Rogo Police Station that several valuable items, including three KVA inverters, three 600 KVA inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tire for the office bus, and a 32-inch LG television, had been stolen from his office.

In response, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) led a team of officers to the scene. During their investigation, they questioned Mishabahu Auwal, a security guard at the office. Auwal confessed to being involved in the theft and revealed that he had collaborated with Ismaila Ahmad from Nakasare Area to steal the items.

As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that several individuals were complicit in concealing and receiving the stolen goods. Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, both from Nakasare Area, were arrested for assisting in hiding the items. Meanwhile, Basiru Lawali from Kuffa Area, Murtala Tijani from Kwanni Area, and Abubakar Umar from Gangaren Kuffa Area were apprehended for receiving the stolen property.

The Sokoto State Police Command successfully recovered all the stolen items, including the inverters, batteries, television, and other valuables. The suspects are now in custody, and preparations are underway for their prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the investigative team for their thorough work and expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation. He emphasized the importance of community support in improving police effectiveness and assured residents that the suspects would face the full consequences of the law.
