Maikol Darinson Vicente Gomez Arrested for Machete Attack

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly attempting to attack three people with a machete at a shopping center near Broadbirch Drive and Tech Road.

Montgomery County Police responded to the scene around 5:42 p.m. following reports of a man armed with a machete. According to the victims, the suspect attempted to attack them with the weapon, but they managed to escape and hide. The three victims did not know the assailant.

Upon arrival, officers pursued the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Maikol Darinson Vicente Gomez of Silver Spring, after he fled the scene. During the chase, Gomez tripped and fell, dropping the machete, allowing police to apprehend him.

Gomez is facing three counts of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, two counts of vandalism, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

The incident occurred near the Westech Corner Shopping Center in Silver Spring, although police have not confirmed if it took place at that exact location.
