Mahesh Kumar, a habitual offender involved in several property crimes in the past, was arrested by Panjagutta police on Thursday. The arrest came less than 24 hours after he stole a doctor’s shoes from a private hospital in Somajiguda on Wednesday afternoon.
The 28-year-old, hailing from Suryapet district, had entered the hospital intending to steal something valuable. When he couldn’t find anything of worth, he took the doctor’s shoes and walked out of the premises wearing them.
Previously employed as a wardboy in another private hospital, Mahesh was dismissed for misconduct a few days ago. Jobless and desperate, he sought out an easy way to make money, which led to his theft at the hospital.
Using CCTV footage, the police traced him to a nearby hostel where he had been staying. They apprehended him, recovering the stolen shoes, along with an iPhone and a OnePlus tablet. Although Mahesh claims the gadgets are his own, authorities are currently verifying their ownership.
The case highlights the quick response of the Panjagutta police in solving a theft case and apprehending the culprit.
