Magoffin County Couple Arrested for Fentanyl Trafficking and Escape Attempt

MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. — Two residents of Salyersville, Jason Benton, 46, and Shauna Puckett, 43, were arrested on December 5 after being found in possession of fentanyl and other drugs. The arrests followed a call reporting a suspicious car in the Grape Creek Community, where officers discovered a car in a field with its flashers on.

Upon approaching the vehicle, police made contact with Benton, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Officers found a white crystal-like substance and later discovered approximately 9.15 grams of fentanyl, along with multiple syringes.

While Benton faced charges including trafficking fentanyl, possession of meth, and tampering with physical evidence, Puckett attempted to escape while in custody. After slipping out of her handcuffs, Puckett fled the scene, but officers quickly apprehended her after using a taser.

Both Benton and Puckett were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where they face multiple charges related to drug trafficking and evading police. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to tackle fentanyl distribution in the region.
