MACON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Macon County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced one of the largest drug busts in county history on February 13, after a routine traffic stop by the department’s new Criminal Interdiction Unit.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., the unit seized around 11 pounds of methamphetamine, making it a significant operation in the ongoing battle against narcotics distribution in the area. The unit was established to proactively target drug flow in the region.
Catalino Miranda Antunez, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with:
Two counts of Trafficking Methamphetamine
Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Distribute
Maintaining Vehicle/Dwelling Place for Drug Use
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Antunez’s bond has been set at $4 million.
Sheriff Holbrooks commented on the success of the unit, emphasizing the importance of staying ahead in the fight against drugs. “We are committed to staying ahead of the curve and using every resource available to combat the drug crisis impacting our region,” Holbrooks said.
The large methamphetamine seizure highlights the continued efforts of law enforcement in Macon County to reduce narcotics-related crime.
