Lynn Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Stabbing in New Bedford

A 32-year-old man from Lynn has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in New Bedford on the evening of October 3. Authorities report that New Bedford Police were dispatched to 1304 Acushnet Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m. in response to a stabbing incident.

At the scene, WBSM News observed a body lying in the street, in the southbound lane of Acushnet Avenue, just before the police arrived. A man was seen standing near a vehicle, directing traffic and speaking on the phone.

The victim, a 51-year-old male, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.

The suspect, identified as Angel Avelino, 32, of Lynn, was arrested and charged with murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Monday morning.

The investigation is being led by Massachusetts State Police detectives, New Bedford Police, and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Homicide Unit. No additional details have been made available at this time.

Angel Avelino has a criminal record. He was previously arrested in 2019 on charges related to drug possession, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to display a valid inspection sticker. More recently, in June, he was arrested on multiple warrants, including charges of shoplifting, assault and battery, and larceny from a building, according to the Lynn Daily Item.

The investigation into the stabbing continues, and authorities are expected to release further updates as they become available.
