Luz Mercy Munoz Arrested in Connection to Pembroke Pines Theft

Pembroke Pines, Fla. (WSVN) – Police have made an arrest in connection to a theft that occurred nearly seven months ago at a Pembroke Pines restaurant. After months of investigation, authorities were finally able to track down the suspect.

The incident took place at the La Granja restaurant on Pines Boulevard on March 6, where a trio of thieves targeted an elderly man while he was dining. According to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, the theft was part of a well-coordinated distraction scheme.

Around 11:35 a.m., the victim was having a meal with another person when a man wearing a face mask approached their table, intentionally dropping cash over the divider near them. This distraction allowed 40-year-old Luz Mercy Munoz, one of the suspects, to reach over the wall and grab the elderly man’s bag. Once they had stolen the victim’s belongings, the trio calmly walked away from the scene.

After an extensive investigation, police identified Munoz as one of the culprits. She was arrested on September 27 and is facing charges of third-degree grand theft.

Police are still investigating the involvement of the other suspects in this incident, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

Munoz’s arrest brings some closure to the case, though authorities continue to search for the remaining individuals involved.
