Luz ‘Lucy’ Ozuna Arrested in Connection with 2020 Murder in Miami-Dade County
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old woman, Luz “Lucy” Ozuna, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the 2020 murder of a 44-year-old man in southern Miami-Dade County. The victim, John Bullard, was shot in the chest during a home invasion on September 5, 2020.
According to Detective Melanie Ginoris, who is leading the investigation, Ozuna had previously told investigators that she was present at the crime scene on the night of the shooting. Video footage from the residence confirmed her presence outside the home with another individual at the time.
Bullard was fatally shot around 2:30 a.m. at a home located at 14741 Harrison St. in Richmond Heights. A witness, who had arrived at the residence to purchase narcotics, discovered Bullard’s body and alerted authorities. Investigators also obtained cell phone data and communication through the TextNow app, which helped to strengthen the case against Ozuna.
Following a request for an arrest warrant, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Laura María González-Marqués issued the warrant for Ozuna’s arrest on Sunday, with no bond. Ozuna was arrested on Tuesday at a house near Northwest Eighth Avenue and 14th Street in Florida City, and was later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Ozuna faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed home invasion robbery, and armed home invasion. Her defense team entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. Ozuna’s pre-trial detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 a.m., with her arraignment set for September 10. The case will be overseen by County Circuit Judge Zachary N. James.
