Luis Berlanga Sentenced to 15 Years for 2022 Fatal Shooting

Luis Berlanga, a Midland man, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2022 shooting death of 32-year-old Richard Allen Rose, according to Midland County court records.

The incident occurred on July 4, 2022, around 2 a.m., when Berlanga was at his grandparents’ house with his girlfriend. Following an argument, she decided to leave and called her brother for a ride, who arrived with two friends. Berlanga attempted to convince his girlfriend to stay, but when her brother and a friend approached him, Berlanga pulled out a gun and shot Rose.

Rose was taken to the hospital but tragically passed away from his injuries on July 11, 2022.

Berlanga was charged with murder and, after a trial, was found guilty on January 16, 2025. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Details regarding his sentencing terms are still awaited.
