In a major breakthrough in the Valapattanam robbery case, police have arrested Lijeesh, a neighbor of Ashraf, a rice trader from Kannur district, in connection with the sensational theft that took place in November 2024.

The incident, which shook the local community, involved the theft of Rs1 crore in cash and 300 sovereigns of gold from a locker in Ashraf’s bedroom on November 20. The trader had reported the robbery to the police on November 25, setting off a swift investigation.

After extensive questioning and evidence gathering, the police traced the stolen items to Lijeesh’s house, a welding worker, who was immediately taken into custody. Investigators found the recovered cash and gold in his residence, which confirmed his involvement in the crime.
