In a swift operation, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) arrested a 23-year-old man, Govindprasad Bhawarlal Nayak, just 48 hours after he stole Rs 9.8 lakh from his former employer in Kolhapur. The theft occurred on Thursday when Govindprasad stole the money from a safe in the godown of Raju Ram Kesari, a wholesale cosmetic products trader, located in Rukmini Nagar, Ruikar Colony.
Following the theft, Raju Ram Kesari discovered the missing money on Sunday and immediately filed a complaint with the LCB. The team began their investigation by reviewing 27 CCTV camera footages, which led them to identify Govindprasad as the culprit. They traced his movement to Kolhapur Railway Station, where he was seen after the crime.
Using his mobile location data, the police team tracked Govindprasad to Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, he was arrested from Ghaziabad Industrial Estate. The police recovered Rs 9 lakh 80 thousand in cash from his possession.
Assistant Inspector Chetan Masutge shared that Govindprasad had been employed by Raju Ram Kesari for just a month before committing the theft. He observed that the godown was mostly empty during the daytime, which gave him the opportunity to execute his plan. After stealing the money, Govindprasad fled to Rajasthan and later moved to Ghaziabad, where he worked in a factory before returning to Kolhapur to carry out the theft.
The quick action of the LCB helped in recovering the stolen money and bringing the accused to justice within a short time frame.
