Larry Kirby Arrested for Murder in Frayser Shooting of Montrell Brown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 39-year-old Memphis man, Larry Kirby, was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Montrell Brown, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car in Frayser on January 18, 2025.

Kirby was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Shelby County Jail on Tuesday with a $300,000 bond.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers responded to a shooting near Shady Vista Drive and Bethlehem Avenue around 8:30 a.m. on January 18. They discovered Brown inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Brown later died from his injuries.

Court documents suggest Kirby and Brown had prior knowledge of each other. Investigators later found that Brown had previously sent threatening messages to Kirby and his girlfriend. Kirby reportedly confessed to the shooting, telling his girlfriend he had shot Brown.

In addition to the murder charge, court records show that Kirby had a history of criminal activity, including a conviction for aggravated stalking in July 2021.
