Lakewood, Wash. – Lakewood Police apprehended Jasmine “Chicken Scam Lady” Willie on Tuesday afternoon after identifying a potential location she was visiting in Tacoma. Officers conducted surveillance and, by 5 p.m., they observed Willie and her husband. Both were arrested without incident.
Willie was wanted for multiple outstanding warrants, including four felony warrants and 13 misdemeanor warrants. Three of these were related to offenses in Lakewood. Her husband, Omar Rashid, was also arrested due to an active felony warrant. Both were transported to the Pierce County Jail.
Willie has gained notoriety in Pierce and King counties for her pattern of retail theft and fraudulent behavior. Court records show she enters stores claiming to have spoken with the manager about a refund. She demands money from clerks, asserting that either she faced racial discrimination or that she purchased spoiled food for her church. On occasion, she impersonates managers and claims to be in contact with them over the phone.
This scam has allowed Willie to successfully extort thousands of dollars from unsuspecting businesses. She faces multiple charges, including theft and organized retail theft. Her bail is set at $200,000.
Should she post bail, she will be transferred to King County Jail to face a $50,000 warrant for her arrest.
