Lake Charles Man Arrested for Second-Degree Murder After Fatal Shooting and Car Crash

LAKE CHARLES, La. – A Lake Charles man, Keith Demetrius Syas, 19, has been arrested on second-degree murder charges in connection with a shooting and vehicle crash near McNeese State University, according to the Lake Charles Police Department.

The incident occurred around 10:58 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, when officers responded to a vehicle crash near the McNeese Legacy Center on McNeese Street. Upon investigation, police discovered that the driver of the wrecked vehicle had also been shot. The driver later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Lake Charles police identified Syas as a suspect and arrested him on Monday, March 10. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Facility, where he is being held on charges of second-degree murder.

This ongoing investigation is focused on determining the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
