Lacy Maxwell Pleads Guilty in Fatal Hit-and-Run Cover-Up

By Blaise Gomez

Lacy Maxwell, 43, from Malden, has pleaded guilty to her role in a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Starllie Swonyoung earlier this year. Prosecutors allege that Maxwell left the scene after striking Swonyoung on Route 9W in Saugerties while the victim was walking with a friend.

Following the incident, Maxwell’s husband, Ryan Maxwell, also 43, assisted her in staging a car accident to conceal the damage to her 2021 Subaru and to file a false insurance claim, according to authorities.

On Tuesday, Lacy Maxwell admitted guilt to charges of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and felony insurance fraud. Ryan Maxwell also pleaded guilty to insurance fraud.

The couple is set to be sentenced on November 15. Law enforcement officials noted that a significant community response provided critical leads that greatly aided the investigation.
