The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 36-year-old Kyle Hayden Lewter in connection to the death of 54-year-old Derek Franklin Walls.
Walls was found dead inside a home located at 1790 Capshaw Road on Thursday. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a physical altercation between Lewter and Walls, who were known to each other, led to Walls’ death.
Lewter has been charged with murder and is being held without bond in jail, as per Aniah’s Law.
Lewter, a well-known figure in political circles, particularly within the Republican Party, was arrested previously for DUI and driving on the wrong side of a highway in downtown Huntsville. After completing community service and drug tests, the case was dismissed and fees waived.
Lewter is considered innocent of the murder charge until proven guilty in court.
