Kujuan Prince Ash, 33, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was arrested following a high-speed chase and a series of thefts in Leeds, Alabama, on March 14, 2025. Authorities say Ash forcibly took an occupied vehicle at a gas pump near Buc-ee’s Boulevard before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed.
Police Pursuit and Arrest
Leeds Police Officers spotted the stolen vehicle near I-20 and I-59 Southbound and attempted to stop Ash. However, he fled at high speed, leading to a pursuit involving multiple agencies, including:
Vestavia Hills Police Department
Homewood Police Department
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
Birmingham Police Department
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
Alabaster Police Department
The chase ended when Ash lost control of the vehicle and crashed near I-65 and US-31. After a brief foot chase, officers arrested him without further incident.
False Identity and Additional Crimes
Initially, Ash provided a false identity, but his real name was confirmed with assistance from the University of Alabama Police Department. Investigators later determined that he had committed theft inside Buc-ee’s and attempted to break into two other vehicles in the parking lot.
Charges and Legal Action
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office has issued multiple warrants against Ash, including:
Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle by force
Attempting to elude police
Theft of property (first and third degree)
Criminal mischief (first degree)
Obstructing justice using a false identity
Attempted unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle
Ash is currently being held on a total bond of $88,000. Leeds Police Chief Irwin praised the cooperation of multiple agencies in bringing Ash into custody and emphasized the importance of interagency collaboration to protect the public.
