Kimberly Dawn Mitani, 36, from American Fork, Utah, was arrested on Thursday night, accused of attempting to steal her mother’s car and causing property damage. According to a probable cause affidavit from Utah County, Mitani faces multiple charges, some with domestic violence enhancements, following the incident.
The charges include assault, interfering with a peace officer, intoxication, property damage, and robbery, with allegations that she attempted to take her mother’s vehicle after being picked up. The mother reported that Mitani began pulling at the steering wheel and became aggressive, prompting her to pull over out of fear for her safety.
When police arrived, they found Mitani uncooperative, allegedly reaching into various compartments and locking the vehicle’s doors while a pocket knife was visible. Mitani reportedly cracked the windshield by kicking it. She was transported to a hospital for evaluation, where her blood alcohol content was measured at 0.191, nearly four times the legal limit in Utah.
Mitani has been booked into Utah County Jail on multiple charges. She remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
