Kelvin Bivens Arrested After Armed Robbery, Gunfire Exchange with Officers

Arlington Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during an armed robbery response on Friday at a shopping center located on W. Pioneer Parkway.

At approximately 6:46 p.m., police responded to reports of two armed individuals entering the business. Officers set up a perimeter around the building, and as they approached, one suspect fled, while the second, identified as 37-year-old Kelvin Bivens, opened fire on officers stationed at the back of the building.

The officers returned fire, but Bivens retreated back into the building. He later attempted to exit through the front door, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Upon securing the scene, officers discovered several employees bound with tape inside the building. The employees were safely rescued, unharmed.

Bivens was booked into the Arlington City Jail on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated robbery. A second suspect, who fled the scene, has yet to be arrested.

As part of standard procedure, both criminal and administrative investigations are underway to review the officers’ actions during the shooting.
