WOONSOCKET, R.I. – Former Woonsocket mayoral candidate Keith Harrison was arrested last Thursday on multiple felony charges related to fraudulent nomination signatures submitted during his campaign last year.
Forgery and Identity Theft Allegations
Harrison, 38, was taken into custody by Rhode Island State Police and charged with:
One felony count of violating nomination papers
Two felony counts of forgery or counterfeiting
Two counts of identity fraud
One misdemeanor charge of providing false documents to a public official
According to police, Harrison also faces additional charges from the Woonsocket Police Department, including obstruction of an officer, resisting arrest, and weapons violations.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation began in July 2024 when the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers detected irregularities in Harrison’s nomination papers, including signatures from two deceased individuals. The case was referred to law enforcement, leading to his arrest.
Upcoming Court Appearance
Harrison was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence District Court on March 5.
