Kayleigh Smart Charged With Murder in Haydock Stabbing

Kayleigh Smart, 39, has been charged with the murder of Liam Collier, 34, following a fatal stabbing at a flat in Haydock, Merseyside on May 2.

Smart appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on May 5, where she confirmed her name and date of birth. She has no fixed address. Due to the seriousness of the charge, the case will move to Liverpool Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for May 7.

The court heard no other statements from the Crown Prosecution Service or her lawyer at this stage. Smart was not granted bail.

Police were called to the scene just after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, where they found Collier seriously injured. He died shortly after. A white forensic tent was seen outside the property, and police conducted door-to-door investigations.

A 40-year-old man from Liverpool was also arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released on bail.

Collier’s family said in a statement released by police, “Liam, you were taken far too soon. You will be loved and missed always and forever.”

A local resident told reporters he saw emergency services arrive and described efforts by medics to save Collier’s life, which continued for nearly an hour.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ball said, “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the victim’s family.”
