Karnataka Woman Arrested for Elaborate Marriage Scam

A 35-year-old woman from Karnataka, identified as Komala, has been arrested by the Gubbi police for allegedly executing an elaborate marriage scam involving multiple victims. The police also apprehended her associates, including marriage broker B Lakshmi and two others, who aided in the deceit.

The investigation began after a complaint from farmer Palakshaiah, whose son, Dayananda, married Komala in October 2023 through the broker’s intervention. Komala, posing as an orphan, had tricked Palakshaiah’s family into spending Rs2.5 lakh for the wedding and jewelry, including a 16-gram mangalasutra.

Shortly after the marriage, Komala claimed she needed to return to her parental home, after which she became unreachable. Concerned, Palakshaiah and Dayananda traveled to Hubballi, only to discover they had been deceived.

Following the complaint, the Gubbi police tracked Komala to a house in Miraj, Maharashtra. They learned she had married another man just four days prior, using the same deceitful tactics and swindling him out of Rs2.5 lakh and gold ornaments.

As news of her arrest spread, more victims came forward, revealing that Komala had married three men in total since her separation from her first husband, Balasaheb Janakar. Her history includes marriages to Raja Ram in Hubballi and Sukhdev in Maharashtra. Police have confirmed ongoing investigations into several missing complaints related to the scam.
