The Karnataka Police have apprehended six members of a gang involved in printing and circulating fake currency notes in the Belagavi district. Officials reported the arrests on Wednesday, revealing that the gang was inspired by the Hindi web series ‘Farzi.’
The accused—Anwar Yadawad, Saddam Yadalli, Ravi Hyagadi, Dundappa Onashenavi, Vittal Hosathotal, and Mallappa Kundali—were caught producing counterfeit notes valued at Rs100 andRs500.
The arrests took place during a police operation in Gokak town, where authorities attempted to seize a car. Inside, they discovered 305 fake Rs100 notes and 6,792 fake Rs500 notes.
Initial investigations indicated that the gang had been printing counterfeit currency at a residence in Arabhavi, Mudalagi taluk, during nighttime hours. Belagavi SP Bheemashankar Guled stated that their modus operandi mirrored scenarios depicted in the ‘Farzi’ web series, which seemed to have influenced their activities.
The police seized counterfeit notes, a printer, a screening board, paint, printing paper, and six mobile phones, valued at Rs5,23,900. A case has been registered at the Gokak police station.
Guled confirmed that the gang allegedly exchanged Rs5 lakh in fake currency for Rs1 lakh in genuine currency, operating across Bagalkot, Mahalingapura, Gokak, and Mudalagi. Further investigations are ongoing.
