Kansas City Woman Pleads Guilty to Retail Theft, Robbery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Asia Marshall, a 20-year-old woman from Kansas City, has pleaded guilty to one count of felony robbery and 11 counts of felony stealing after a series of retail thefts throughout 2023. Marshall, who worked with accomplices, stole merchandise worth over $750 from various stores.

Marshall’s theft spree included incidents at Bath and Body Works, Sephora, PINK, and Ulta, among others. Eleven of the thefts were nonviolent, resulting in felony stealing charges. One incident, however, escalated when Marshall assaulted an employee at Bath and Body Works, leading to a more severe felony robbery charge.

On December 21, 2023, Marshall and others attempted to steal over $1,500 worth of merchandise from Bath and Body Works. When an employee tried to return an unattended bag, Marshall and the suspects threatened and physically assaulted the employee. They fled with over $3,000 in stolen goods and caused further damage in the store.

Marshall’s arrest came in January 2024 when she was found hiding in a Jackson County home. She later pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to seven years in prison, with all counts running concurrently. The sentence reflects her involvement in over $30,000 worth of stolen merchandise across multiple incidents throughout the year.

Despite initially pleading not guilty, Marshall revoked her plea and acknowledged the charges, which will result in her serving seven years in a Missouri prison. She will also be credited for time already served.

It remains unclear if other individuals involved in the thefts will face charges. Marshall’s case highlights the ongoing issues of retail theft and shoplifting in Kansas City.
