Kansas City Man Sentenced to 26 Years in Federal Prison for Drug and Gun Offenses

Edgar A. Mejia, 49, of Kansas City, was sentenced to 26 years and 10 months in federal prison without parole for heroin distribution and illegal firearm possession. Mejia, previously convicted of felony drug and firearm offenses, was found guilty by a jury in March 2024.

Authorities conducted a search of Mejia’s RV in October 2022, uncovering 541 grams of heroin, a handgun, an AR-15-style rifle, and ammunition hidden behind a wall. Mejia’s case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and enhancing community safety.
