Kano Anti-Corruption Commission Arrests Officials Over N105M Diversion

Kano, Nigeria – Three officials from the Nassarawa Local Government Area, including the Director of Personnel Management, Treasurer, and Cashier, have been arrested by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) for their alleged involvement in diverting N105 million.

The arrests also involved Mustapha Maifada, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abba Yusuf. The officials had been instructed to process a payment of N105,000 for a program, but instead, they issued a cheque for N105 million to Maifada in November 2024.

Following an intelligence tip-off from a financial monitoring system, the anti-corruption agency launched an investigation into the case. Although the detained officials initially claimed the transaction was a mistake, PCACC Chairman Muhuyi Rimin-Gado stated that the commission does not accept this explanation, citing the time lapse since the incident and other available evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and the officials remain in custody as the commission seeks to uncover further details related to the misappropriation.
