Kalyan Taluka Police have arrested three men from Gujarat for allegedly murdering their co-worker, Sagar Gothade, at the Samruddhi Mahamarg construction site in Kalyan Taluka two weeks ago. The incident occurred after a petty dispute, and the suspects fled the scene before the murder was discovered.
The deceased, Sagar Gothade, a 35-year-old laborer from Nashik, was working at the construction site in Kalyan Taluka. The arrested men, Vishal Mali (24), Badrinath Patil (43), and Ganesh Suryawanshi (all residents of Malegaon), were fellow workers who shared rented accommodation in Chinchavli village with Sagar.
The police believe the altercation that led to Sagar’s death occurred on March 2, after the men had been drinking alcohol. During the argument, the accused allegedly attacked Sagar with sharp weapons, striking his head multiple times. Sagar collapsed and was found unconscious in a pool of blood. Fearing the consequences, the suspects fled without notifying anyone.
The landlord of their rented accommodation alerted the police, and the authorities formed two teams to investigate the crime. During their search, investigators discovered that the accused did not use their mobile phones or contact their families, which made it harder to trace them. However, with the help of CCTV footage and local informers, the police learned the suspects had fled to Dharampur, Gujarat.
On March 13, the police dispatched a team to Gujarat and located the suspects working at another construction site. The three men were arrested and brought back to Kalyan, where they were presented in court and remanded into police custody for further investigation.
Suresh Kadam, Police Inspector at Kalyan Taluka police station, explained, “Thanks to technical intelligence and information from local informers, we were able to trace their whereabouts in Gujarat. We acted quickly and arrested them.”
The investigation is ongoing as the police continue to gather details about the motive behind the crime and whether other individuals were involved.
