George County, MS – A high-speed chase on Monday, March 10, led to the arrest of two individuals after deputies discovered large amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their vehicle.
According to the George County Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to stop a silver Ford sedan on Highway 98 near Highway 63, but the driver refused to comply, reaching speeds over 100 mph while discarding items from the car.
After a lengthy pursuit, law enforcement successfully stopped the vehicle and apprehended Kaitlyn Smith (35), of Richton, MS, and Curtis Remley (26), of Leakesville, MS.
Smith, the driver, was charged with fleeing or eluding law enforcement and was also booked on an outstanding Justice Court warrant for failure to appear.
Remley, the passenger, was charged with drug trafficking after deputies found large amounts of marijuana in the vehicle. He also had an outstanding warrant from the Mississippi Department of Corrections for parole violation.
Both suspects are being held at the George County Regional Correctional Facility, pending their initial court appearance.
