Joshua Shea has been sentenced to 37 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of Evangelos Ioannou, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke. The sentencing took place on March 7, 2025, at the Hillsborough County Superior Court (Southern District).
Shea admitted that on June 7, 2022, he recklessly caused the death of Evangelos Ioannou by repeatedly stabbing him inside Ioannou’s apartment and in a common hallway of their shared Nashua residence. The plea was entered under RSA 630:1-b(I)(b), charging Shea with second-degree murder for demonstrating extreme indifference to the value of human life.
During the hearing, the court heard emotional statements from Ioannou’s family and friends. Following these, Shea was sentenced to a prison term of 37 years to life, with the possibility of parole. As part of the plea agreement, Shea waived his right to sentence review, and both he and the State agreed he would seek statutory relief under RSA 651:20.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Attorney General Benjamin J. Agati and Assistant Attorney General Bethany J. Durand, with assistance from Victim Witness Specialist Bianca Monroe.
