COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – A high-speed chase in Coweta County led to the arrest of Joshua Ricky Hobgood, a man wanted for stealing a car in Gwinnett County. Hobgood, 34, was charged with several offenses, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, DUI, theft by receiving stolen property, and fleeing or attempting to elude police, among others.
The incident unfolded on November 30 when Hobgood was spotted driving a stolen Honda Accord northbound on Interstate 85. Initially, deputies believed he would pull over, but surveillance footage shows Hobgood fleeing from police at high speed.
Despite deputies attempting a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver, Hobgood regained control of the stolen car and continued driving recklessly at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase saw him passing cars in the emergency lane before eventually coming to an end.
Hobgood was arrested after crashing the car and placed in handcuffs, as shown in the video provided by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Coweta County Jail without bond and is expected to face additional charges in Gwinnett County for the stolen vehicle.
This high-speed chase and Hobgood’s reckless driving highlight the dangerous risks posed by fleeing suspects and the determination of local law enforcement to apprehend them safely.
