Bartow, Fla. — A 23-year-old man, Joseph Voigt, is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder after allegedly killing his father and shooting his mother in Bartow. Voigt was arrested early Sunday morning in Orlando after taking the family car, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a home on Highland Blvd. late Saturday night where they discovered a man deceased and a woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Voigt, who had been released from jail just days earlier on December 1, was apprehended and booked into the Orange County Jail. Authorities revealed that Voigt had also been arrested in October for discharging a firearm in a residential area.
Polk County officials are expected to release more details regarding the case on Monday.
