EL PASO, Texas — Joseph Lunares and Edgar Martinez were arrested Thursday, December 5, in Westway after being caught with fentanyl and attempting to tamper with evidence during a traffic stop.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO), deputies initiated a traffic stop on the 600 block of Westway Boulevard. As the vehicle approached a stop, deputies observed items being thrown out of the vehicle’s window.

After stopping the vehicle, deputies detained Lunares and Martinez. A search of the area revealed a significant number of pills that tested positive for fentanyl. The items that had been discarded were also recovered and confirmed to be fentanyl-related substances.

Lunares and Martinez now face charges of tampering with physical evidence and possession of a controlled substance. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the exact quantity of fentanyl pills seized during the investigation.
