Jose Medina Arrested After Violent Escape Attempt in Coral Springs

A 32-year-old Lauderhill man, Jose Medina, was arrested in Coral Springs after an attempted escape during a theft chase that turned violent. Medina allegedly stole $147 worth of clothing from a local Walmart on December 8, 2024.

As he fled the store located at 3801 Turtle Creek Drive, Medina shoved a loss prevention officer to the ground, escalating the situation into a robbery. Coral Springs police, including a K-9 unit, arrived on the scene and ordered Medina to stop. However, he ignored their commands and ran.

During the chase, Medina grabbed the police dog’s leash and punched the K-9, but the dog was able to latch onto his arm, which allowed officers to take him into custody.

Medina, already on felony probation for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance, now faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and robbery. He was transported to Broward County Jail and later released on bail, according to court records.
