SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — A 26-year-old man from Clive, Iowa, has been arrested on felony charges following a high-speed pursuit in Sioux County on Sunday.
Jose Giron Giron is accused of eluding law enforcement after an officer attempted to make a traffic stop. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Sioux Center Police Department, Giron Giron was driving without his headlights or tail lights on when the officer tried to initiate the stop.
During the pursuit, Giron Giron’s vehicle collided with the front of the officer’s patrol unit as the officer tried to position his vehicle in front of the suspect. The officer later used a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver to bring the vehicle to a halt.
Giron Giron was charged with felony eluding, a class D felony, for attempting to flee while traveling more than 25 miles per hour over the speed limit. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. Additionally, he faces several misdemeanor charges, including operating while intoxicated, three counts of failure to obey a stop sign, no valid driver’s license, no insurance (accident-related), driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and failure to use headlights.
Giron Giron has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 31. He was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City and released the same day after posting a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
