Jorge Armando Jacinto, a convicted child molester, was immediately arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials following his release from a Rhode Island prison. Jacinto, 49, had served 14 years in the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston after being convicted in February 2011 for multiple child molestation offenses.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, although 20 years of the sentence were suspended. In 2012, Jacinto was convicted on four counts of felony first-degree child molestation and five counts of felony second-degree child molestation by the Providence Superior Court.
Upon his release on December 15, 2024, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston officials arrested Jacinto, citing violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Jacinto is now in ICE custody, awaiting an immigration hearing before a Department of Justice judge.
Patricia Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ERO Boston, expressed satisfaction that the Adult Correctional Institution honored the immigration detainer lodged against Jacinto during his prison sentence. The detainer requested that local authorities hold Jacinto beyond his release date while ICE considered potential deportation proceedings.
In addition, ICE also announced the arrest of Yordy Centeno-Melchor, an illegal immigrant accused of attempting to kidnap a teenager in Alabama on New Year’s Eve. Centeno-Melchor, who had been deported six times previously, was arrested by ICE on January 3.
These arrests highlight ongoing concerns around illegal immigration and the efforts of ICE to detain and prosecute individuals with criminal backgrounds.
